Sandhill’s Tamar Barn Review
My husband and I stopped in the
Barn, self catering, late March 2014. I was lucky enough to win a Woman’s Weekly
competition, and got the weeks stay for the price of a stamp.
Having spent years thinking we
were saving money using large companies where the charmless accommodation is
standard, and you never seem to get the £19 rooms they advertise, they always
end up being £50/night, for that price or just above, at Sandhill House, you can
get beautiful characteristic accommodation, in amazing grounds, with an owner who genuinely cares if
you enjoy your stay or not.
Needing peace and quiet for our
stay the Barn was ideal, warm and cosy. Delightfully decorated with everything
we needed for a perfect stay. We enjoyed Breakfast and Lunch sat in the private
garden patio, (ok, in a coat), but listening to bird song and the wind in the
trees that sounded like the sea. It has only been open a few months so not very
well known yet, but it will be!
This would be ideal for
honeymooners, or for couples who want a peaceful hideaway, or to take advantage
of the fresh air and the many walks around locally. You can even bring your dog,
saving you a fortune in kennel fees. We spent a nice full day at the Eden
Project which is only about an hour away.
One of the previous reviews said
they had difficulty cooking Xmas meals in the Micro/Grill/Convection oven but we
found it fine, even cooking a
whole chicken in it on the Sunday. Remember you are on holiday, so think simple
meals and you’ll be fine.
Returning home feeling like
we’ve definitely recharged our batteries, we are very grateful to Mary Corin for
all the extra little touches that made our stay just perfect!
If she hears strange noises
coming from the wood store-it’s us, we’ve moved in and made our own Barn
retreat.
