Well! For those of you who have read my very first blog, I thought I would remind you that today is the first anniversary of our arrival at Sandhill House. It's been tough getting here, but a year later the luxury B&B in Gunnislake and the self-catering special hideaway, Tamar Orchard Barn, are now open for business. With the stunningly good weather what better place can you choose to be in than the Tamar Valley and all the world beating heritage and environments it has to offer?
After a year with our head down on the project we are slowly getting to know what's what and where.
How about kayaking down the Tamar River, tree-surfing in Gulworthy www.treesurfers.co.uk or perhaps a great striding walk across Dartmoor National Park? There are six National Trust Properties within easy distance, with Cotehele House http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/cotehele/ being only 3 miles away and Rosemoor http://www.rhs.org.uk/, the stunning Royal Horticultural garden in Great Torrington, Devon and the Garden House at Yelverton - www.thegardenhouse.org.uk/ again all within easy reach of Sandhill House B&B, Gunnislake.
Or for a real adventure how about taking the Tamar Valley Railway line from Gunnislake (the station is at the end of our carriage drive) www.greatscenicrailways.com/tamar all the way to the historic Naval city of Plymouth. A bite to eat at the Barbican or Plymouth Hoe and then a genteel ride up the river Tamar by boat www.tamarcruising.com to Calstock Quay, finishing off your day with quiet drink in the Tamar Inn, while you wait for us to come and chauffeur you back to your luxurious room. Now that just has to be one of the very best journeys in England.
